2008 UNESCO Award of Excellence for Handicrafts Training was held at Hangzhou New Century Grand hotel Tianhong Hall from 9:00 to 12:00 on the 8th Nov. The training was chaired by Ms. Beatrice Kaldun, cultural specialist of UNESCO Beijing Office. Mr. Wang Shan, secretary-general of CA&CA, opened the training with a short speech. He briefly introduced the Award Program in China, which was jointly started in 2006 by UNECO Beijing Office and CA&CA. The Award Program including its history, goals, activities, and criteria was further explained by Ms. Beatrice Kaldun. Ms. Manjari Nirula, from India and Mr. Edric Ong from Malaysia then gave elaborate presentations centered on the judging criteria of the program. The training reached its climax with experts’ analysis through examples of awarded products and non-awarded ones. The training was a success if judged by the reactions from the participants who are representatives from Award producers and local associations around China.
